Comparative study of guided bone regeneration using absorbable and permanent barrier membranes: a histologic report.
In an experimental study using the Göttingen minipig, Gore-Tex, Gore Resolut, and Vicryl barrier membranes were tested for their efficacy in guided bone regeneration. The results were compared to those of autologous periosteum. The strongest reossification was seen in the bone defects covered with Gore-Tex; however, time-dependent disintegration phenomena, which had already been observed in pre...
متن کاملComparative study of two collagen membranes for guided tissue regeneration therapy in periodontal intrabony defects: a randomized clinical trial
PURPOSE THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO ASSESS AND COMPARE THE CLINICAL AND RADIOGRAPHIC OUTCOMES OF GUIDED TISSUE REGENERATION THERAPY FOR HUMAN PERIODONTAL INTRABONY DEFECTS USING TWO DIFFERENT COLLAGEN MEMBRANES: a porous nonchemical cross-linking collagen membrane (NC) and a bilayer collagen membrane (BC). METHODS Thirty subjects were randomly assigned and divided into the following 3 gr...
متن کاملGuided tissue regeneration membranes for periodontal regeneration--a literature review.
Guided tissue regeneration materials were reviewed in this paper and can be categorized as non-resorbable and bioabsorbable. Both materials have been used extensively in periodontal regeneration with no difference in the clinical outcome. Selection of barrier material depends on resorbability, size of the defect, morphology of the defect, operator preference and patient acceptance.
متن کاملGuided tissue regeneration for periodontal infra-bony defects.
BACKGROUND Conventional treatment of destructive periodontal (gum) disease arrests the disease but does not usually regain the bone support or connective tissue lost in the disease process. Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) is a surgical procedure that specifically aims to regenerate the periodontal tissues when the disease is advanced and could overcome some of the limitations of conventional t...
متن کاملConnective Tissue and Bacterial Deposits on Silicone Sheet and ePTFE Barrier Membranes in Guided Periodontal Tissue Regeneration
The aim of this study was to compare connective tissue and bacterial deposits on silicone sheets (SS) and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membranes (ePTFE) used as barrier membranes in guided tissue regeneration (GTR) for periodontal treatment. Eighteen intrabony periodontal lesions from 18 patients were first surgically treated by GTR and either SS or ePTFE were used as barrier membranes. Fou...
